There’s probably nothing tougher to give back to God than our hard-earned cash! I say give-back, because that’s exactly what we're doing as rulers; giving back to God what is already His. As the owner, God has it all; our lives, our possessions, our money, and He’s calling us to faithfully steward it this side of heaven.
But even though we might believe it all to be God’s, its still not as easy as it sounds to part with our finance and sow it into His kingdom. In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul the apostle addresses this and charges the church to give, decide in their hearts what to give, to do it gladly, and to expect blessing in return (see 2 Corinthians 9:6-8). For the follower of Jesus, giving of our finance isn’t an option; its a joy and a blessing to worship God in giving.
My prayer for you today is that you might experience this for yourself; the life-giving joy of giving back to God what is his and living under the open heaven of blessing. Some of that blessing might look like it did when you sowed it; but some might look very different. All I know is that God will not be mocked. What you have sown will come out, at the right time, in the right way. We will be blessed as we grow in the grace of giving. The Word of God assures of of it.
- How do you feel about giving money to the church? Do you agree that you should? Or not? If not, why?
- How can you grow in your giving? Do you need to grow in it?
- What does your home budget look like? Is there room to give to God in it?
